zuneHD anybody??

OK... I actually got to have a hands on look today(Some bigwigs from Microsoft was at comcast today)... and I must say WOW!!! Now i'm not a microsoft fanboy by all means, but I do like microsoft products and some mac products(proud owner of an ipod touch). I liked this thing soooo much, as soon as I got off work I went to Fry's and pre-ordered one! The screen is just amazing! You see it, and your mouth just drops on how perfect every single color is!! And then he had the dock that hooks up to your tv. He set the zune in it, and whoa!?! 720P/24FPS video to the tv!! Awesome! But what I really like about this, is the HD radio built in with tagging for the zune marketplace. So if you hear a song on the radio, you can tag it and buy it instantly off the marketplace(i know this is on previous zune's too, i just love it!). Everything and I mean EVERYTHING is smooth on this! I do have some concerns about this though, so read below....

Concerns:
1. No speaker (some ppl may disagree on this).
2. App store (although the Microsoft rep said they have one building up with 3rd party vendors lined up to launch).
3. No iTunes support (makes sense, since the iPod is the rival)
4. THEY NEED TO MAKE THIS INTO A PHONE and drop the Windows mobile line PLEASE!

My conclusion: I was looking to buying a new ipod touch since I was wanting to update my 1st Gen ipod touch, but noticed nothing really extra special about the new version. And after having a hands on encounter with the zuneHD, its almost a MUST especially when he told me about the upcoming app store thru the zune marketplace.

Some ppl say that its mimicking the iPod touch, but once you feel it and actually mess around with it yourself, its on a whole different level than the iPod touch. Microsoft may not KILL apple on this, buts gonna definitely hurt their sales!

I have a second generation zune and I use it everyday!  I saw some leaked photos of the HD a few months ago and I cant wait to get my hands on it.

YESSS!!!!! Marketplace 4.0 is finally launched and I LOVE IT!!! I think i might actually drop itunes now! Microsoft just upped their game! ZuneHD is AMAZING!!! Can't wait till more app's come!

This is the biggest competition to the ipod touch there is and it has it's pro's and con's. I like the zune but I stayed away b/c it is not compatible with a mac computer and the internet browser is nowhere near as nice as safari on the touch plus I am more accustomed to apples products.

Pro's:

Con's:
no app store

There is an app store, its in the software that you use to load your zune

There isn't a speaker, but if you are comparing it to the zune touch/iphone speaker, then don't bother, they are not worth the mention

archos players in the past have had the best internal speakers by far, but lets face it, all of the players that have them its more or less just a nicety and not very useful unless you are in dead silence.

the browser is good enough, to surf the web, i wouldn't say its be best out there but "terrible" is misrepresenting it

actually you can use it on a mac, but the software is not strait up mac complient, you just have to use VMware or the like to do it. again this isn't really a strike against it since many things are not mac compatible, or more correctly, mac is proprietary on purpose, and therefor not compatible with many things.


The zune HD is not my fav player (i like the options my archos provides) but its pretty sweet, very responsive and works like a charm. I got one for my brother for Christmas and its a thing of beauty.

Did Microsoft ever fix their automatic syncing? I had a Zune, and if the music wasn't on the computer it was hooked up to, it deleted the music from off the Zune. This annoyed me for a couple of months before I finally sold it and bought an iPod Classic. At least Apple lets you disable to auto-sync feature.

I have been down with Zune for a while, and the automatic syincing had an easy fix, keep your music on an external hard drive and it fixed the problem, though I don't think its a problem anymore
