Who is watching this? Go Italy!!

Rubbish call on the red card to Clark. It was a foul, but certainly not a red. And if that was a straight red, Grosso should've been sent off as well. US definitely deserved the penalty for that foul.

And as I type this, what an equalizer by Rossi. What a fantastic goal.

Spain dominated yesterday, as expected. I missed the Brazil-Egypt match, but from all accounts, it was a thriller. I'll have to download it and watch later.

By the way, we already have a football thread. It's not as if this is some major tournament that deserves its own thread like the World Cup.

Ref misses another clear-cut penalty for the US, and the Italians go on to win 3-1. Lovely. Now on to Brazil and Egypt. Both of Rossi's goals were very well-taken. The 3rd (his 2nd) was a tough half-volley finish, and he got it bang on target.

Now, if only he had chosen to play for the US instead.....

Ah yeah, I know, but I didn't see anyone talks about it, so I decided to start a topic for this, plus I added a poll. Either way, the last goal by Rossi was freaking awesome. What a fantastic assistance from Pirlo. I hate Brazil, but that game was awesome. The other games were boring.

Spain are definitely in top form. Even though New Zealand didn't put up too much of a fight, the passing and movement shown by the Spaniards was simply excellent.

Embarrassing display by the US right now. Beasley especially is playing utter crap. They need to pick it up, because they are better than this.

I thought they were going to play better. Egypt played better and they have less-known players.

Egypt are defending ACN champions. They are certainly no pushover.

What team have you been watching? That's not the issue. Physically, the US team is right up there with the best of them. It's technically and tactically that they lag far behind. An offensive plan that consists of hoofing the ball up top to Altidore for him to hold up as they try to surge forward is utterly useless and opens the US up to counterattacks, and we saw what the Brazilians did with their counters today.

1-0 Egypt, 10 minutes left. Told you so.

The U.S. team needs bigger guys with the heart and determination of the small Landon Donovan.  The U.S. team isn't terrible but they aren't great. Brazil is great and made the U.S. look terrible.

That's not exactly a new problem. Ever since players like McBride, Reyna, and O'Brien retired, the US hasn't had the type of players with big hearts who wouldn't hesitate to grab their own teammates and tell them to buck the heck up.

Instead, for a solution, we get............Sasha Kljestan. It's not even about the red card today, because both the US sending-offs have been weak calls. I've never been a fan of his attitude for club and country. Essentially, he's a jerk. I don't even care for Donovan, because I think he's an arrogant crying twit who acts like a spoilt brat when he doesn't get what he wants (like when he moved to Germany), but the more I see of Donovan, I can accept his attitude because he backs it up with his game. Kljestan is just rubbish.

The US sorely miss Mastroeni and Hejduk.

I totally agree with the fact that L.Donovan is a spoilt guy. He thinks he is the best soccer player in this world. when he scored a goal to Italy, he was celebrating as if he has scored the most amazing goal in that championship. when he came to Panama in order to play a match with my country, he acted very arrogant.

talking about the match between Italy and Egypt, I am very disappointed.
I think Italy deserved a tie.

Well, to be fair, he did score a goal against the defending World Cup champions to give his country the lead after one of his teammates had been (wrongly) sent off and he himself got elbowed in the face with only a yellow to Grosso for that.

As for Panama.......yeah, unfortunately he has a tendency to act out against CONCACAF teams. At least he has the game to back it up, unlike Kljestan, who loves to run his mouth but yet really isn't anything special.

Spain passed to semifinals without any problem. Honestly, I can't stand Torres and Villa. Since they won the eurocup, they think Spain is the best team in the whole world. Now, Torres and Villa believe they will win the worldcup next year, but they need more than this

I don't care much for Spain, but their record speaks for itself - at this point in time, they are the best national team in the world, and they look like a good bet to overcome their history of underachieving in the World Cup. Young squad, loads of quality players to choose from, and an attractive style of play. Dismissing them based on personal preference alone is a bit shallow.

You are completely right. Spain is one of the candidates to win the worldcup next year. They are playing well, but when I mentioned Torres and Villa. I was refering to their arrogant behavior; although, they are very talented soccer players.

What a straaaaange turn of events today. US essentially getting a back door into the semis. The Italians really rolled over against the Brazilians.

This sucks. I guess I already lost interest in the games, but I will continue watching the games. I don't want Spain or Brazil to win the cup.
