Cllick here to join

League ID#: 81756
Password: cdl

Live draft: Friday, August 21st, 8:00 pm Eastern

Bummer: I thought about adding a punters category, but there's none available. Settings are still pretty much the same, with a bit of tweaking so that some of the bonuses are a bit more reasonable (e.g. WR and RB bonuses changed from 100-150-200 to 100-130-160).

It's set up as a 10-team head-to-head league with playoffs (top 4) in week 15 and 16 for now. If need be, I will expand it to a 12-team league with one more week of playoffs (top 6) starting in week 14.

PLEASE only sign up if you plan to be active all season. Nothing is more frustrating in fantasy sports than inactive managers in a league.

Signed.

I work nights and will try to get that night off.  If for some reason I cant, will I be able to make a list of players as if it were not a live draft?

Yes - you will need to pre-rank your players, and Yahoo will pick for you accordingly. If you don't, they'll just pick whomever the highest-available player is.

I wouldn't mind joining but I've never done it before and I am worried that it may be too difficult. Can someone give me a little info on it before I join and end up being an 'inactive manager'.
What type of info are you looking for?  Just a summary of what it is or how it works or both??

Both. I mean you don't have to write a book on it or anything, I watch football, I keep up on it fairly well, ya know, I participate in the casual sports discussion at work and what not. But I am no expert and am basically wondering if Fantasy Football is for the casual football fan or only for people who watch nothing but ESPN and memorize every stat of every player and make football their whole life, 'cause I'm not that guy, ya know.
LOL, I am just laughing because I'm watching PTI on ESPN right now.  But.....I watch more food network than anything.

I am going to assume you get the basic jist of fantasy football then.  What an individual player does in the game on Sundays (and Mondays and some Saturdays) has a value assigned to it for fantasy purposes.  These values vary from league to league depending on league settings.

Each league has a number of teams to it, the norm being 8-12 teams.  Each team has a manager (you) and each team has a set of players assigned to it as starters and a number of bench players.  Our league has the current settings

QB, WR, WR, RB, RB, TE, W/T, W/R, K, DEF, D, DB, DL, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN

The 2 positions W/T and W/R are flex positions.  So it's either a Wide receiver or tight end in the first one and either a wide receiver or running back in the second one.  Its good to check how each league has their scoring settings, which may value some players more than others.

The most work, will probably just getting yourself somewhat learned about how and who to draft.  Your draft strategy in other words.  Here are some helpful sites for guidance on that:

http://www.fftoday.com/
http://www.fftoolbox.com/index.cfm
http://www.fantasyfootballcafe.com/forums/index.php

We use Yahoo as our fantasy provider.  One thing about Yahoo is, they have a default ranking built into their leagues.  So if nothing else, when the live draft happens the software will pick your players for you.  You can adjust or completely change the rankings as well and if you don't make a live draft, the software will pick according to your rankings.  If you know football fairly well, you are already half way there on this front.  You know names and good players already.  I am currently commishing a league for my family.  My mom signed up.......she knows NOTHING about football, lol.  My wife also signed up, she knows just above nothing about football.   Smiley

After the draft, the very least that is required of you, is to make sure you line up is set before Sunday.  That you have players set to play that aren't on IR or on a BYE week.  This can be a matter of a few minutes of effort.  How much you put into during the week, is really up to you.  I am anal about it, so I normally check NFL news once a day to see if anyone is hurt or lost their starting position etc and make adjustments according to that.

You will probably want to check your Team page at least a couple of times during the week, just to see if anyone has offered trades etc.  This again, is up to you and how much time you want to put into it.  It really doesn't take much time for one team to be managed.  It has really helped me learn more about the game as a whole too.

I am in 7 different leagues this year and I work lots of overtime and have plenty of time for other things.  Once you get the hang of how things work, it doesn't have to take up much of your time at all and its fun.  You get to talk smack to people like me and DKST.

As manager, you act just like a real GM.  You can pick up free agents, make trades decide who starts and sits etc.

Let me know if that helps or if I just confused you.

6 teams.........  Sad

At this point, I have another league with 7. I'm almost tempted to just merge both leagues together and pick up one more person. Come on, if we can't get at least 8, it's not even worth it.

boomhauer, if you see this in time, I already said nobody's your personal secretary here, so consider this your reminder to sign up.

You can Pre-rank the players so that Yahoo will always pick the highest available player on your list whenever your pick comes around. If you only prerank the first 50 or so players (about 6 rounds), Yahoo will then auto-pick for you the highest available player.

There is a good chance I may miss the live draft as well, just pre-rank your players and all should be good.  I am hoping to be available for the live draft though, maybe someone will draft Shaun Alexander again.

Derek, I didn't mean to be a frustration.   Undecided  I will be leaving Texas on the 13th to drive to Ohio and leaving early on the 22nd to come back.  I am packing up my mother in law to come down to Texas to live with us.   Roll Eyes  I am hoping to have time to do the draft that night, but it will be the last night I have to see my family up there.  I'll be spending most of my time packing up my mother in laws stuff........so I hope you can understand my weariness in fully committing to that Friday.

Well, we'll just see what others say. It's not that I don't understand personal circumstances, but if more than 3-4 can't make it to the live draft, we might as well reschedule, since there's really no point if that many won't be there. May as well just do an autodraft at that point.
