it's gonna be interesting who will win in. I think there are enough players that can win it, so it should be interesting to watch te big games. that's by the women and the man

Used to love watching tennis. Was a big fan of Boris Becker, and always enjoyed watching Becker, Edberg, Wilander, Connors, Lendl, and McEnroe do their thing. Then there was the Agassi revival in the late 90s when he underwent his image makeover.
Now, it's all about who has the best equipment and can thus pound the ball harder, especially on first serve. Boring.
And the women's game? Don't even get me started. I find it utterly ridiculous that a top-ranked player can just call it a day and retire, citing "lack of motivation." That tells me there's no heart and passion, and when it's coming from the #1 player, it speaks volumes about the rest.
I have to say that last year's Wimbledon was an absolute classic, though.

yes, that can be
but, isn't every sport chanching with the newer and beter and expenciver equipment? it isn't always a bad change, look at the 60's football matches. that was boring. so football is better now.
change isn't always bad, that's my point. but if you like the old tennis very much, then the new tennis could be boring. (i don't now, cause i'm to young and i dont now all the players you mentiond.

that was goods times, but now I think that is good as before, maybe the first serve can be more used now, but that doesn't make it bored, nor for me thought, and yeah the final of wimbledon in last year waws a classic

but, isn't every sport chanching with the newer and beter and expenciver equipment? Sport evolves over time. That's a given. But when the performance becomes dependent on the equipment, then it's not really so much about the skill, is it? I will gladly take it all back if Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, etc. picked up wood rackets and played on the various surfaces like the older players did. it isn't always a bad change, look at the 60's football matches. that was boring. so football is better now. Which football you talking about? American football or football? If you mean football, then you cannot be serious in saying it was boring in the 60s - that older era was the days of legends of the game like Puskas, Di Stefano, Kopa, Eusebio, Best, Charlton, Greaves, Pele, Garrincha, Yashin, etc. etc. Football may be faster and some different skills evident today, but look at all the diving and pampering of superstars and players worried more about money than loyalty. Better? Hardly.

You are right when it comes to diving pampering and the money. but I the football in this era is, for me, more exciting then in the 60s. yes, in the 60s you had legends like di stefano and eusebio. that players were really good, but the rest did not do very much in the field. now there are more players at the same level, who can also do things that normal people could not do. yes there are a few players that are really good, but overall the players can do more with a ball. and then i take the diving and pampering within it.
but let's talk about tennis, 14 days for the australian open. i'm looking forward to it
Ps. sorry for my poor english

I love the US Open because of how rowdy the atmosphere can get. I'll never forget Jimmy Connors' magical run in 1991. That was simply the stuff of legend.
However, for pure tennis alone, give me the French Open. The clay forces players to really depend on solid fundamentals to excel.

what you say about the clay is true, but not always, because it gives more advange to defender players. and Australian open is my favourite cause is the first of the year, many players play their first match after months, and is when I'm on vacations, besides, the atmosphere is different of others tournaments, I mean The summer, the 38° C, etc.

You say that like it's a bad thing. Counterpunching tennis is some of the best tennis out there. Anyone old enough to remember will never forget Michael Chang in '89. What an amazing run that was. Equal parts skill, equal parts improvisation, equal parts guts. Tennis doesn't get much better than that, and you don't see that on grass or hardcourt.

Chang. And grass has become nothing more than a surface that rewards guys who can hit hard.

Fast tennis doesn't always necessarily equal good tennis. More often, it equals "let me hit it hard enough so you can't get to it, no need for rallying" tennis.

but there are players that just don't like playing rallys. the want to hit the ball hard so the other player can't get to it. if there was not something like fast tennis, the same players would win every tounament. now you have to be more allround.

Is it just me or are the women's matches not so exciting anymore? Since the Belgian women retired (Henin, Clijsters) and the Williams sisters not doing as well as in the past, the Russians have it pretty much on lock down. I think it was a bit more fun when the different countries could battle it out. Now its like which Russian female is gonna win

And what a comeback by Federer today. I honestly thought he was dead at 3-3 in the third. His body language was just down. Amazing.
yes, same thing with gonzalez, I'm waiting for his match against nadal

That's what happens when you schedule a guy to play in the Australian summer heat barely a day after having him play a long match at night.

They closed the roof on Rod Laver Arena for the Williams-Kuznetsova match. Serena is onto the Semifinals

I say Federer wins because he really wants to tie Sampras' record.

I was gonna say the same, because Federer is my favourite player and he's playing like 2 or 3 years before

Nope. You just knew Roddick was going to fall yet again in a major. Could almost set a clock to him doing that. Great match between Verdasco and Nadal here. Sucks that it ended on a double-fault.

Just watched Nadal's press conference. He is absolutely spent. He'll no doubt be full of heart for the final, but it's going to take nothing short of a physiotherapy miracle for him to be fully ready for Sunday.

Nadal Has won!!!! It was a real thriller, saw the whole first and last set. 5 hours of tennis it was really amazing what they still could do after that time. it was sat for the other guy, who made a double falt at match point (his 4th of the match.) amazing match

Congrats to Nadal. What a match but a disappointing 5th set for Federer. He psyched himself out and made way too many errors.

Our whole family watched the award ceremony. Because of all the emotion that was brought up in both of the players it was hilarious to see them standing beside each other holding their awards with distraught looks on their faces as if they hadn't won at all. We had a bit of a laugh amidst our cheers.

Meh, Federer's speech was a bit melodramatic. Nadal should not have felt that he needed to apologize to Federer for winning. He won fair and square. Federer will bounce back, barring injury. I have no doubt about that.

federer's speech was just great, i like that kind of sportmen that are so good that when they lost they can cry, and then the public give him an ovation. just a great moment
