Actually, I totally agree. Oh, and a stable build of AWN for Ubuntu. I'm definitely looking forward to Ubuntu 7.10, though. 8 more days!

Firefox 3, anyone? Hopefully it's far less of a resource hog.
Screenlets are great, too bad It's pretty much two guys (RYX and whise) shouldering the whole project. It would really take off if more people contributed.

I'm downloading the beta version of MS Office 2008 for Mac. Hopefully it will run well.
Anyone know of a way to get rid of the download limits on rapidshare.com.

Does Spore count? Ever since I saw the first vid of that game I have been really excited about it.
I am currently anticipating the next Amarok release, as it promises to bring a Windows version, and also KDE 4.

Songbird (even the latest dev. version) is too bloated for my tastes. It is not smooth at all; there is a noticable lag. Meanwhile, iTunes runs with nary a hitch.
I know Songbird includes the firefox engine, but still, if you are going to do something, do it right. Make it as efficient as possible on every platform it runs on. Strip away unnecessary code. Remove unwanted features. It should be a good music player first and foremost, and I don't think it's that great of a music player. Oh, and it has memory leakage issues.

Songbird hasn't technically been released to the public. Versions up until 0.3 have been strictly developmental while version 0.3 is intended to be for third-parties to begin developing their own code for the bird. Version 0.1 was a proof-of-concept. I don't remember the name of version 0.2, but 0.2.5 was a developer preview and 0.3 is a developer pre-release. That basically means all of the coding power was focused on the API ( see the release post). Now they will be making the bird a true competitor for iTunes and Amarok. Keep in mind, this project has been going for little more then a year.

I realize all that. I was just noting areas that should be improved by the time it even reaches beta stages. (which might well be afar off)

Flock 1.0.2 was released yesterday. It is based off the Mozilla engine, yet does not have memory leakage issues which is my main reason for not using Firefox. It is available for all major platforms.

I don't know why people are so ga-ga over Firefox; It's a memory hog, and in OS X it doesn't even have the look and feel of a native application, and likely never will. There are better, free, open-source browsers for OS X, such as Flock, Opera, Safari with WebKit and Saft, Camino, etc. In Windows, too, there are better web browsers.. (and by the way, Firefox 3b2 won't run on my Mac Mini; it keeps crashing right after it opens, for some odd reason, and I'm too lazy to report the bug. lol)
